Perhaps Tomorrow Short-Listed for Best Historical Read Award

I'm absolutely thrilled to announce that, Perhaps Tomorrow, has been shortlisted for the Romantic Novelists' Association's 2012 Historical Romantic Novel Award.perhapstomorrow

As you can imagine I was completely bowled over when my previous novel, A Glimpse at Happiness, was nominated for the Romantic Novelists' Association's Romantic Novel of the Year in 2010. That's was more than I ever dreamed of so to have a second novel Perhaps Tomorrow also shortlisted is almost unbelievable.

There are four other RNA romantic award categories, contemporary, epic, romantic comedy and young adult and the winner of each category will be announced at the their our Awards Eventin the Gladstone Library on the 5th March.

The winner of the Romantic Novel of the Year will then be selected by a panel of judges from the five RoNA category winners. The winner of the Romantic Novel of the Year will announced and the presentation made at the RNA's Summer Party in May.

Naturally I hope I am the one whose name is pulled out of the envelope as the winner of the Historical Romantic Novel but "Perhaps Tomorrow" is up against some cracking novels;

Highland Storms : Christina Courtenay (Choc Lit)
The Noble Assassin : Christie Dickason (HarperCollins)
Daughter of Siena : Marina Foriato (John Murray)
A Gathering Storm : Rachel Hore (Simon & Schuster)

Whatever the result it's still a thrill to be in the last six for the award and I'm sure it will be a brilliant evening.

Rescue Kittens

My creative juices were stemmed in a spectacular fashion yesterday when there was a knock at the door which sent my 8st Bernese mountain dog into a frenzy.

I opened the door to find two scruffy looking kids holding a bundle between them.

Abandon cat

They thrust it at me. ‘Wana by a couple of cats, Missus? Twenty quid.’

I wanted to say I’m a bit over subscribed for pets but suddenly there was a movement and a little black and white nose poked out.

Festival of Romance

Jean Fullerton and Carola Matthews

I had just the best time away this week-end at the Festival of Romance, which was in Hutton

Park near Watford this year. It was a great chance to catch up with some long-standing writing chums, such as Carole Matthews, and meet readers.

Jean Fullerton in Victorian Costume Kate Allen, who is a ultra-organized dynamo, put the programme together with a mix of talks,

panels discussion and fun events including a chocolate demonstration and an authors' fashion parade. This required we dress as one of our characters so this is me as Mattie Maguire, the heroine of Perhaps

 Tomorrow.

She asked me to give talk on a Beginners Guide to Historical Romance with my good friend

Fenella Miller. This gave us a chance to recommend historical book from our 'keepers shelf.'

My Costume supplied by the Kenneth Moore Theatre

As I said on a previous post I had been shortlisted for the Festival of Romance's Readers Award for the Best Historical Read. As ever, there was a strong line up in the Historical category and with so many fabulous books I didn't hold out much hope of winning so when Jenny Barden, who is another organizational wonder-woman,  read out my name I was stunned.

Jean Fullerton and Sue Moorcroft

But I wasn't the only winner as , Sue Moorcroft, who writes sharp witty contemporary romances also won the Award for Best Romantic Read and, Henri Gyland, won the New Talent award.

It was a wonderful couple of days in a beautiful Regency County House - although sadly no sight of Mr Darcy. It was both relaxed and informative with good company and discussions about books and romance long into the night. I for one will be booking my place for next year's Festival of Romance.
